Thank you to Councilor Fernandes Anderson (tania4d7) for planning Friday’s Cabo Verdean flag raising at City Hill! This event was a meaningful celebration of Cabo Verde’s rich heritage and a testament to the vibrant Cabo Verdean community in Boston. We were joined by the Prime Minister of Cabo Verde as well as Senator Liz Miranda and Representative Worrell.

Today we welcomed Girl Scouts from South Boston to City Council chambers thanks to South Boston Liaison, Lydia Polaski! Each of the City Council members welcomed them to the chamber and they were able to gain insight into the inner workings of our Budget Working Sessions.

Together with the Office of Economic Development, Fire Department, Police Department, and Mission Hill Main Streets, we’re committed to empowering our local entrepreneurs. Their stories and ideas inspire our dedication to building a stronger, more resilient community.

Josiah Quincy Upper School Student Visit to City Hall
Today, we met with students from Josiah Quincy Upper School to discuss the role of a City Councilor and how the City Council functions to serve its constituents. Students circulated around the room, brainstorming on three key topics: what they would prioritize as a City Councilor, how they envision improving their community, and which resources they would expand or make available to other schools.
Allston/Brighton Coffee Hours with Mayor Wu
Revisited Brighton roots today at the Allston/Brighton coffee hour! Councilor Santana, who attended Winship Elementary after arriving from the Dominican Republic, shared how the school made a lasting impact on him. Heard from Kate England, Director of Green Infrastructure, about how green initiatives can address neighborhood issues like flooding and updates from Mayor Wu on the Jackson Mann Community Center’s upcoming move.

We had the pleasure of joining Green Roots for their inspiring event, the Caminata Verde. Green Roots, a dynamic community organization, holds these weekly walks with East Boston residents to foster connections, promote exploration, and encourage physical activity.
4th annual Juneteenth Celebration in Hyde Park
Today we attended the 4th annual Juneteenth Celebration in Hyde Park, which was an incredible experience amidst perfect weather, surrounded by rich culture including Black artists and vendors. The event featured multiple stages and a variety of activities celebrating Black Joy and honoring Juneteenth. We were inspired by powerful speakers and joined by Representative Pressley and Mayor Wu.

Thank you to the Caribbean American Carnival Association of Boston for inviting us to the 28th Corporate Breakfast in Dorchester last week. We enjoyed Diana’s beautiful rendition of “America the Beautiful,” admired Eileen’s stunning outfits, and appreciated the opportunity to connect with association members including former City Councilor Tito Jackson and President of the association Shirley Shillingford.
