Unveiling of Flora Way at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University

Saturdays weather was perfect for the dedication of Flora Way!

The dedication of Flora Way emerged from a community process, led by residents and civic leaders of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale. Their collaborative efforts with the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department led to the petition that ultimately saw Bussey Street renamed in honor of Flora, an enslaved woman who lived and worked nearby.

It’s said Flora worked on a farm along Walter Street, about a quarter mile from what would later become the Arboretum, under the ownership of Colonel William Dudley. The renaming of Flora Way now stands as a tribute to her legacy and honors the resilience of countless individuals whose histories continue to shape Boston.
