Malcolm X Park Basketball Court Mural Celebration

We had a fantastic time this past Saturday enjoying the beautiful weather at Malcolm X Park, taking in the incredible new basketball court artwork with Councilor Fernandes Anderson!

Led by Rob “Problak” Gibbs and a talented collective of Boston-based artists, the mural, titled “Give Them Their Flowers,” honors the contributions, struggles, and achievements of the Roxbury community.

The team of artists—Deme5, Square (Lee Beard), Michael Talbot, Luis Urena (LUC), and Ayana Mack—Led by Rob “Problak” Gibbs were commissioned to create murals on three of the basketball courts, along with a mural on the adjacent wall of the BCYF Shelburne in Roxbury. The mural, titled “Give Them Their Flowers,” reflects on the legacy of Roxbury, honoring both the struggles and the remarkable contributions of its residents.

These works are part of a broader effort by the Boston Art Commission and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the city’s mural consultant Street Theory, to celebrate the park’s renovation.
