Working for You:
My Role in City Council Committees

My leadership as Chair of both the Committee on Public Safety & Criminal Justice and the Committee on Education allows me to directly impact the issues that matter most to you.

These committees have broad purview, overseeing crucial departments and topics. For example, the Committee on Public Safety & Criminal Justice addresses matters related to departments such as Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Management as well as evaluating, encouraging, and facilitating resident-driven efforts to prevent crime, while the Committee on Education focuses on educational policy, in particular special education, bilingual education, and technical education, with the goal of eliminating opportunity and achievement gaps.

This oversight ensures accountability and responsiveness within these vital areas of Boston.

As Chair of both of these committees, I preside over public hearings where residents can share their concerns and offer solutions, as well as regular committee meetings where we debate and refine proposed legislation. I also facilitate working sessions, bringing together stakeholders and experts to collaborate on complex policy challenges. Crucially, my role involves overseeing the distribution of grant funds, ensuring that these resources are invested wisely in programs that benefit our community, from public safety initiatives to educational opportunities.

Why Committee Involvement Matters

Grant Funding

Committees rigorously review public safety and education grant proposals, holding hearings to ensure your tax dollars are spent effectively and transparently, maximizing their positive impact on our community.

Community Feedback & Input

As Chair, I conduct public hearings to gather input from the community on important policy matters. These forums provide an opportunity for you to share your concerns, offer suggestions, and directly influence the decisions that affect your lives. We also facilitate working sessions with stakeholders to develop consensus and find common ground on complex issues.

Accountability & Transparency

Through our committee hearings, we shed light on the inner workings of city departments and ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the community.

Taking Action, Not Just Filing

As Chair, I actively work to push forward and develop legislation that addresses the critical needs of our community. I preside over committee meetings, where we thoroughly discuss proposed legislation and hear from experts on relevant issues.
